Egon Dubois presented with Don Stathos Award
by Victoria Brown on Dec, 10 2017
Each year the Board of Siskiyou Velo presents an award to an individual or group that have contributed in an exceptional way to cycling in southern Oregon. The 2017 award was presented to Egon Dubois for his work with 4th and 5th grade students in Ashland schools. Egon provides bicycle safety, skills and group riding basics to classrooms and also takes the students out on an escorted, group ride. He maintains a fleet of bicycles that are used for the classes and also available to teachers to take their classes on field trips by bicycle. Some of the students have never ridden a bicycle before, but with patience and instruction all are able to join in the group rides. To help finance the program Egon also completes mechanical repairs on donated bicycles that are then sold at the Ashland Bike Swap each year. We salute the good work of Egon Dubois.
