Monday Coffee Ride - Cancelled for now
The long held Club tradition of a Monday ride has come to an end. Regrettably, no one was willing to assume the ride leader duties, without which, the Club’s insurance won’t cover the ride, participating Club members, and the membership itself. Too bad – great ride, great people and a great route (except for that portion of the ride on Oregon Highway 238 – which has been made more dangerous for cyclists w/ ODOT’s recent addition of a centerline rumble strip). David Chapman’s decision to stop leading the ride coincided with ODOT’s “improvement.“ It is unfortunate that ODOT did not consult a National Cooperative Highway Research Program report, NCHRP 339, which cautioned installation of centerline rumble strips on routes used by cyclists with inadequate shoulders (try no shoulders).
