Investing in Bicycling Infrastructure
by Gary Shaff on Dec, 21 2018
A news story on CNN reported that the Netherlands will invest $390 million in bicycle infrastructure with the goal of getting 200,000 more people commuting by bike in the next three years. That in a nation that already boosts a bicycle network that is the envy of almost every nation in the world.
Locally, it is different story. The recently adopted Medford TSP will invest just two million dollars in bicycle improvements between now and 2038 – twenty years. That in a community that most characterize as being unsafe for bicycling. Sad.
