City of Medford to Utilize Bicycle Strava Data
by Harlan Bittner on Nov, 20 2020
The City of Medford has obtained free access to Strava bicycle data. The data can be used to determine where bicyclists ride and, importantly, where they avoid riding. Such data can inform development of improved bicycle facilities to create bicycle networks that are safe, convenient and efficient for everyone. Strava provides this data free to local governments. The information is provided in terms of bicycle volume on each roadway segment. The data are aggregated and stripped of any personal identifying information. So, every time you log a ride on Strava, you will be helping to improve the future of cycling for our community! Strava’s “heat map,” indicating various activities (including cycling) for the Rogue Valley, can be found at: https://www.strava.com/heatmap#11.31/-122.85451/42.26464/hot/all.
